Our student-run cafeteria serves delicious, healthy meals 5-days a week to our entire student population and staff. The kitchen is fully equipped with industrial appliances and gives students the opportunity to learn valuable work and life skills.
In addition to regular meals, the students and their teacher create special menus for school events like our back to school BBQ/Corn Roast, Valentine's Day, Multicultural May Feast Days and our annual Holiday luncheon.
John Grant has fully equipped woodshop where students can learn new skills and create projects with their teachers.
In the woodshop, students learn perseverance and focus, respect for materials and safety, and practice sharing and teamwork.
It is also a space to practice mathematical thinking (size, shape, geometry, measurement), develop fine and gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination skills.
Through the student entrepreneur program students created handcrafted 'Buddy Benches' for our schoolyard.
Our horticulture area reinforces classroom learning in a variety of subjects.
Students learn to plant and care for a variety of vegetables and herbs which are sold at our end-of-year plant sale. We also have a Nutritower which provides fresh microgreens for our school cafeteria year-round.
Hands-on gardening experience is a great way to help young people understand and appreciate how food is grown and increase their environmental awareness.
What have you eaten today? Chances are at least part of what was on your plate exists thanks to bees – and we’re not just talking honey. Pollinators are responsible for about a third of all the food humans consume.
Urban beekeeping encourages people to think about planting pollinator-friendly plants and flowers and expand their view of the environment, taking into account all the tiny creatures with whom we share our world. The docile Italian bees that we use at Alvéole are excellent ambassadors.
Located on the roof of our building, our hive is managed and cared for by the team at Alvéole.
Students benefit from hands-on workshops with our beekeepers and our school sells our unique brand of honey.
