Our student-run cafeteria serves delicious, healthy meals 5-days a week to our entire student population and staff. The kitchen is fully equipped with industrial appliances and gives students the opportunity to learn valuable work and life skills.
In addition to regular meals, the students and their teacher create special menus for school events like our back-to-school BBQ/Corn Roast, Valentine's Day, Multicultural May Feast Days, and our annual Holiday luncheon.
WEEKLY CAFETERIA SERVICE
Our wonderful student chefs provide freshly cooked lunches for our students five days a week at the very reasonable price of $3.00 per meal. Our chefs are inspired by local ingredients - and global cuisines (including family recipes from all over the world). Our commercial kitchen and instructor are MAPAQ certified and our students learn skills that are transferable to daily living as well as to semi-skilled trades in the food handling, preparation, and service industry.
SNACK PROGRAM & BREAKFAST CLUB
Students run the show! Under the supervision of a cooking instructor/teacher, we offer a Practical Culinary Program for students that provides healthy meals five days a week for students and staff. This program offers affordable lunches and helps students develop practical skills in food preparation, handling, and service. It is an integral part of the Work-Oriented Training Path (WOTP) program, providing hands-on stage experience for students preparing for the workforce.
Events and Celebration The cafeteria team prepares menus for events such as the back-to-school BBQ and Corn Roast, Valentine’s Day, Multicultural May Feast Days, and the annual Holiday Luncheon. These events allow students to explore global cuisines and share family recipes.
Affordable lunches Students learn to prepare freshly cooked lunches inspired by local and international flavors at an affordable price of $3.00 per meal. This ensures healthy meals are accessible to everyone at the school.
Breakfast Club of Canada With funding from the Breakfast Club of Canada, the school offers a snack program and breakfast service. Students, guided by staff, prepare nutritious snacks for recess. The Home Economics room supports this program, with teachers helping students create recipes and prepare meals. This room also receives support from the Breakfast Club.
Care for the environment The cafeteria integrates sustainable practices into its operations. Our indoor greenhouse grows some of the produce used in the kitchen, while kitchen scraps are sent back to our vermicompost system. This cycle supports environmental responsibility and provides students with valuable lessons in sustainability.
The John Grant High School cafeteria combines learning with service, making it a valuable part of the school experience.
