Wagar student to be ambassador for Autism Speaks Canada’s Dog Walk

With his dog Rookie by his side, 22 year old Wagar Adult Education Centre student Matthew Moses is set to lead the pack at Autism Speaks Canada’s 2^nd annual Dog Walk on Sunday, September 8 (9:30 to 11:30) at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park (6975 Mackle) in Cote Saint Luc.

The public is invited to participate in this annual fundraiser to celebrate the unconditional love of dogs and their therapeutic benefits to families and individuals living with autism.

“Rookie is very special to me and my family as he understands my feelings especially when I’m sad. He also makes me laugh all the time being his goofy self and loves all of us unconditionally,” said Matthew. “I feel dogs are a very good comfort when life throws curve balls, please join us with your dog and sign up to the Dog Walk. Your fundraising supports families, children and adults with autism spectrum disorder.”

Matthew’s school, Wagar Adult Education Centre, is located in the heart of Cote Saint Luc and welcomes students from 49 countries, with all levels of education and life experiences. The centre is home to a special needs program with 250 part-time and full-time special needs adults who follow the MELS Social Integration Services Program. Additionally, the centre offers both full and part time French and English courses at beginner and intermediate levels.

“Everyone in the Wagar community is very proud of Matthew’s work, not only as a student but as an advocate for autistic people,” said Nick Katalifos, Principal of Wagar Adult Education Centre. “This is why we at Wagar are thrilled that Autism Speaks Canada is working with a young man of character, an ambassador, like Matthew. In addition to the 1-kilometer dog walk, participants will also be able to meet canine specialists and community organizations, participate in dog-friendly and family-friendly contests and perhaps win some great prizes at the raffle gift table. The first 250 participants will receive a complimentary Nutrience gift bag with dog treats.
