“The Art Seen” is an innovative art-based social integration program offered at the Visual Arts Centre in Westmount that runs in collaboration with the English Montreal School Board’s Wagar Adult Education Centre.

The program’s mission is to enhance the visibility of neurodivergent talent in the art community, where representation has often been lacking

On May 27, The Art Seen students and their teacher Anna Persichilli welcomed Montreal-based mixed media artist John A. Schweitzer to their studio. Schweitzer, who specializes in collage, led a workshop that included a discussion on his process, the use of colour and the feelings and sounds associated with each one, and the creation of a group collage.

As many of the students are working on collage, and some of their works have already been shown at The Old Brewery Mission, this proved to be a most inspiring learning experience.

Schweitzer’s workshop took place in collaboration with Inspirations, a publication and resource that caters to the special needs community of Greater Montreal and the surrounding areas,

Art Seen will be hosting a Student Exhibit 2025 with artwork by Wagar Adult Education Centre students at the McClure Galler, 350, Victoria Avenue at the Visual Arts Centre from June 13 to 22. A vernissage will take place on June 12 from 6 to 8 pm.
